On the label
The second line of the blend
"Phytosterol Complex (40-45% beta sitosterol)"
The label line reads "Phytosterol Complex (40-45% beta sitosterol)". It stands second of the 5 in the 351 mg blend.
That standard means a little under half of the complex is beta-sitosterol. The label does not print the weight of the complex itself.
Research
What the published source says
Quoted from Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews.
The evidence suggests non-glucosidic B-sitosterols improve urinary symptoms and flow measures.
Their long term effectiveness, safety and ability to prevent BPH complications are not known.
B-sitosterols did not reduce prostate size.
In the capsule
What that means for a capsule
The Cochrane review pooled 4 trials of beta-sitosterol products in 519 men with a diagnosed condition, lasting 4 to 26 weeks. Prostacor was not among the products tested.
A capsule's beta-sitosterol content is not printed, so it cannot be compared with the trial doses. The label also says the capsules are not intended to treat any disease.
